Inaugural Awards Ceremony

The first Awards Ceremony was held at the Liverpool Hilton Hotel on Sunday 23rd May prior to the Satellite Meeting. Tayo Akingbehin, President of UKISCRS, welcomed the special guests for the event, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Liverpool - Councillor Mike Storey CBE and Mrs Carole Storey and The President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists - Mr John Lee. Other guests included the award recipients and their partners, council members and the satellite meeting guest speaker - Mr Burkhard Dick and his partner.

There was a champagne reception before dinner. For many this occassion was an opportunity to catch up with old colleagues, peers and friends. There were 3 after dinner speeches, Mr Emanuel Rosen - one of the directors of UKISCRS proposed a toast to the society, followed by a toast to the award recipients by Mr John Lee - President of the RCO and finally the Lord Mayor of Liverpool - Councillor Mike Storey CBE spoke about the city and welcomed the society to Liverpool.

The Lord Mayor then proceeded with the presentation of the awards to the 12 recipients consisting of past presidents, officers and a special award to Mrs Diana Choyce in recognition of her continued support for the society and the distinguished service of the late Peter Choyce. All recipients were presented with a specially designed 9ct gold lapel pin, bearing the UKISCRS logo. They also received certificate of achievement with a photo of their presentation framed together. Damian Lake finished the evening with a vote of thanks and presentation of flowers to the Lady Mayoress.
