WHY TAKE PART??
From one of our 2025 winner, Inderpal Ghuman: "I thoroughly enjoyed presenting at the meeting and was honoured to receive the prize.
I decided to enter the competition because I wanted to challenge myself to share a case that reflected the clinical reasoning and collaborative care involved in hospital optometry. UKISOP felt like a fantastic platform to showcase interesting patient cases while learning from colleagues across different areas of ophthalmic practice.
I would highly encourage others to attend UKISOP because it is such an engaging and supportive meeting, with an excellent mix of clinical education, discussion, and networking. It is a great opportunity for both experienced clinicians and those earlier in their careers to gain insight into advancing practice and the evolving role of optometry within multidisciplinary eye care."
United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Ophthalmic Professionals (UKISOP) was established in 2010 by the council of the United Kingdom & Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, a not-for-profit making organisation founded in 1976 for the training & education of doctors in cataract and refractive surgery. UKISOP was founded for all (non-medical) health professionals allied to Ophthalmology. We offer an annual programme of lectures and hands-on workshops which are associated with the UKISCRS general meeting each autumn.
Attendance at this event provides educational and networking opportunities and the added chance to join the gala dinner and entertainment during the evening of the main meeting. This provides a unique networking opportunity for all health professionals involved in the Cataract Pathway. Previous programmes have included a wide variety of theory-based lectures from eminent speakers within the Ophthalmic fraternity. We compliment this with hands-on unique workshops in which delegates can handle equipment and start the journey of learning new clinical skills. You can even try your hand at cataract surgery on an artificial eye!
The UKISOP faculty is derived from representatives of each of the stakeholder professions allied to ophthalmology. These include Optometrists from the community and the hospital eye service; Ophthalmic nurses, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic technicians. ECLOs and Ophthalmic imagers with representation from an Ophthalmologist on the board of UKISCRS.
